Needing Help Is Not
Weak Faith

Somewhere along the way many of us absorbed the idea that a strong Muslim does not struggle, and that needing help equals weak īmān. It does not. Our tradition built hospitals (maristans) for the care of the mind more than a thousand years before Europe treated mental illness as medical at all. Seeking care has always been part of how Muslims live, not evidence against faith.

A note on care

If you are in immediate danger, or thinking of harming yourself, please do not wait. Call 911 or your local emergency services, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the United States, or reach Naseeha at 1-866-627-3342. You are worth the call.

Nothing on this page is medical or psychological advice, and this project is a research initiative rather than a clinical one. What follows are organizations doing this work, offered so that you have somewhere to begin looking rather than a search engine. Fit between a person and a clinician is real, and finding the right one sometimes takes more than one try. That is normal, and it is not your failure.

Where to Look

Organizations doing this work

Two of these I can speak to from direct experience, and they are marked. The others are included because they are established, Muslim-centered, and doing work converts need, not because I have been their client. I would rather tell you exactly where my knowledge ends than imply a closeness I do not have.

Whole-person care rooted in the Prophetic tradition and the wisdom of the sages, our approach integrates sacred medicine, drawing from the Holy Qurʾan and Tibb al-Nabawi, with modern wholistic healing sciences.

One more thing

My research documents what converts carry: rejection from family, coldness from community, isolation, and loss without replacement. If any of that is yours, you are not imagining it and you are not alone in it. 459 women said so.
